The Submission Process

All regional deadlines for The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2010 have closed. Guidelines and deadlines for next year’s awards will be available on October 1, 2010.

VIDEO GAME category remains open through February 12. See Video Game Guidelines (PDF).
NOVEL category remains open through March 12. See Novel Guidelines (PDF) .

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and its Regional Affiliates will recognize more then 30,000 young artists and writers with Gold Keys, Silver Keys and Honorable Mention Certificates. More than 150,000 works are currently under review by our panels of arts professionals. Because of the volume of works, only those students who earn awards will receive notification letters. Winning students will receive notification letters three months after the regional deadline.

Judging Criteria

In all work, jurors look for three core criteria: 1) Originality, 2) Technical Skill, and 3) Emergence of a Personal Vision or Voice. Learn more about the jurors and the judging process.

Register

Students register online to obtain submission forms. These forms must be printed, signed and attached to each work before sending to the Regional Affiliate. Students are encouraged to register at least 2 – 3 weeks prior to the regional deadline.

Please note: Students who are 12 and younger cannot register their work online. Regional guidelines will provide PDFs of paper forms to complete and submit with work.

Review and Obtain Required Signatures

Review printed submission forms to make sure all the information is correct. Read the “Copyrights Release” and "Authorship and Plagiarism" sections of the guidelines. A teacher and parent/guardian must sign each submission form. (Students over 18 do not need a parent/guardian signature.) Attach the submission form to the work.

Submit

Submit work to the correct Regional Affiliate, as instructed in regional guidelines.

Notifications

Students and teachers who are recognized with regional awards will be notified within one to three months of the regional deadline. Due to the volume of submissions, only those students earning awards will be notified.
