Exhibitions
The Exhibitions Program of the Scholastic Awards strives to provide creative teens with the joyful experience of sharing their artwork and writing with the public. The Alliance presents professional exhibitions in cities across the country, including annual shows in New York City.
National Exhibition
Select nationally awarded works of art and writing are included in the annual National Exhibition.
The 2023 edition of the National Exhibition was the first fully in-person exhibition since 2019. Hosted between Scholastic Headquarters at 130 Mercer Street and the nonprofit art space Affirmation Arts, the exhibition included over 400 pieces of award-winning art. Other previous National Exhibitions have been mounted at The New School and Pratt Institute.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Exhibition is supported, in part, by Scholastic Inc., The Maurice R. Robinson Fund, New York Life Foundation, Blick Art Materials & Utrecht Art Supplies, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, National Endowment for the Arts, and numerous other individual, foundation, and corporate funders.
Traveling Exhibitions
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is committed to displaying student artwork across the country. Works displayed at the National Exhibition in New York City may be selected to be included in a traveling exhibition. As part of the Participation Terms students agree to when entering the Awards, the Alliance may hold a student’s artwork for up to two years.
Traveling exhibitions have been mounted nationwide at institutions including the Rubell Museum in Washington D.C., in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Warhol Museum, Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Arnot Art Museum, and Josyln Art Museum.
